Who Am I?
Hi, I’m Elaina! I’m a content creator, shop owner, travel advisor, football coach’s wife, and dog mom. I love staying busy but try my best to simplify where and when I can. For the past few years, I’ve focused on simplifying my home, living life to the fullest, and educating myself on wellness. I wish I could say I’m a master now, but I would be lying. Here at Elainafaye you’ll find tips and tricks that I’ve learned over the years to help me through the highs and lows, things that I’ve learned, and what I love. I hope you feel welcome and enjoy it
How I got here
Growing up I had daily headaches, frequent migraines, and acne. I thought that was normal because I was going through puberty. Well, my acne got worse and my migraines increased. Once I was in college I started having eczema breakouts on my body. I was doing all the “things” I was told to do. Use Proactive morning and night, moisturize using dermatologist recommend lotion, and take over-the-counter medications or prescribed meds to “see if it works”. Nothing worked.
Sometime between high school and college, my mom shared that she thinks I’m allergic to one of the main ingredients in makeup, Talc. Maybe Talc was causing my severe breakouts. So I went to my local drugstore and bought a few talc-free makeup options. My acne went from severe to moderate. I was so happy I finally found my “solution”.
A few years ago I watched a documentary called Stink! on Netflix. It’s about the ingredients in our everyday products, makeup, and fragrances. It was fascinating and led me to ask myself, “What is in my home that could be causing my headaches, acne, and eczema?”. Since then I’ve made simple product swaps and am working on my living a healthier lifestyle. I can say with confidence that my acne is minimal, I don’t remember the last time I had an eczema breakout, and my headaches/migraines have decreased. I still have a long way to go but I want to share with you the 7 swaps that I’ve made to detox my home.
My Best 7 Tips
Okay, now with that out of the way, I’m super excited to share the top 7 secrets I discovered on
my OWN path to detoxing my home. Let’s start with #1

Secret #1: Switch to natural, green cleaning products
Have you ever noticed a headache or itching skin after cleaning? Some of the reasons is that there are thousands of chemicals in our daily household products which are often absorbed into our bodies. They can cause skin irritants and/or endocrine disruptors. Natural products use ingredients that are less harmful to breathe in or come into contact with.
I made the switch about 3 years ago and I no longer get headaches when I clean. Researching ingredients and what products to use can be overwhelming! My go-to is a mix of vinegar and water (sometimes I add essential oils). Vinegar is a natural disinfectant, cuts through grease, and it doesn’t leave streaks on glass.
If you would rather use store-bought products, do your research. A lot of “clean” brands have been bought out by big corporations and are no longer “clean”. I always use the “Think Dirty” or “EWG Healthy Living” app to shop for products. The apps are databases that list out and rate products based on ingredients.
Call to Action: Download the Think Dirty and EWG Healthy Living apps. They are Free!

Secret #2: Switch to natural personal care products
Did you know it only takes less than 30 seconds for your body to absorb whatever you put on your skin into your bloodstream? That’s insane! What we use on our skin ends up inside our bodies so it’s important to pay close attention to the ingredients in our makeup and skin care products. There are harmful ingredients that could be affecting your skin right now. I know that was the case for me before I made the switch.
Just like household products, researching clean, natural beauty products is a pain and you can’t always trust “organic” labels because companies are geniuses when it comes to marketing. I ALWAYS make sure that my products are fragrance-free. I use the Think Dirty and EWG Healthy Living apps to help me research products before I buy. Finding the right product for you will be a lot of trial and error. So don’t get frustrated and go back to your old toxin-filled products. It took me about 3 years to find a brand that I LOVE.
My FAVORITE Natural skincare and makeup brand is called Crunchi, They are completely toxic-free, prioritize certified organic ingredients and perform just as well as conventional brands.

Secret #3: toss your candles and air fresheners
This was a difficult step for me to take! I was the girl that bought out Bath and Body Works candles every season. But I was determined to reduce my headaches and migraines. Burning candles and air fresheners release harmful pollutants into the air. Manufacturers are not obligated to disclose fragrance and flavor ingredients in order to protect their trade secrets so there is no telling what chemicals are being released into your home.
I love my home to feel cozy and smell good so here I recommend a diffuser with essential oils, stovetop potpourri, flameless candles (for the vibe), or toxic-free candles. If you have pets please make sure you diffuse safe essential oils. Some are harmful to animals.
You don’t want to give away the farm here, because you want to leave room for your eventual products and services later on. I would target 200 – 500 words per secret.

Secret #4: Replace dryer sheets with dryer balls
Dryer sheets contain fragrances that can be endocrine disruptors. They can release harmful chemicals when heated, which can cause respiratory irritation and other health issues. Additionally, they can contribute to environmental pollution when disposed of improperly. It’s recommended to use natural alternatives or limit their use.
Dryer balls are a great alternative to dryer sheets and fabric softeners because they are eco-friendly and reusable. They help decrease drying time, reduce wrinkles, and soften clothes. Additionally, dryer balls don’t contain harsh chemicals and are safe for people with sensitive skin. Make sure that they are wildcrafted and organic to ensure they’re solvent-free.
If you love the smell of dryer sheets, you can infuse your dryer balls with essential oils.

Secret #5: Install an air Purifier
Between household cleaners, pesticides, building materials, and more, the air in our homes is not clean. We spend most of our time indoors so shouldn’t we care about the quality of the air we breathe?
My family started using air filters about 5 years ago and we can tell a difference in our allergies and the amount of dust around the house.
If you don’t want an air filter in each room, I suggest plants like Aloe vera, spider plant, and English ivy. Make sure you also change the filter on your air conditioning unit too.

Secret #6: Reduce plastic products
Plastic products can potentially affect your health in various ways. Some plastics contain harmful chemicals like BPA and phthalates that can seep into food or drinks and have been linked to health problems such as hormone disruption, cancer, and reproductive issues. Additionally, plastic waste can harm the environment, leading to air and water pollution.
Work toward replacing plastic cups, bowls, plates, and food storage containers with stainless steel, silicone, glass, bamboo fiber, or ceramic. It also helps reduce waste in your home and improve the air quality.

Secret #7: Leave your shoes at the door.
The easiest and most affordable way to detox your home is by leaving your shoes by the door. Shoes pick up dirt and bacteria and when you walk around you spread that bacteria all over your house. I know I wouldn’t want my kids playing or crawling around on a floor full of bacteria.
Grab yourself a pair of cozy indoor slippers, go barefoot, and rock some socks. But make sure that your slippers and socks are only for your home.
Remember, this takes time.
You don’t have to do all 7 things at once. The first place I would start would be switching out your skincare and makeup products. Our skin absorbs everything we put on it. This is the switch that gave me the fastest results.
