Habits for Healthy Skin
Are you someone who wants healthy skin? But you can’t seem to figure out the best routine and products to get you there. Having healthy skin boosts your confidence and mood. You may have grown up thinking you have to buy the most expensive skincare products to have beautiful clear skin. That my friend is a lie.
If you raised your hand to my question above, keep reading to find the 9 habits to develop for healthy skin.
Drink the stinking water! Your body needs proper hydration to flush out toxins. The toxins in your skin can cause acne, eczema, and other skin conditions. The best way to do this is by drinking water. When toxins are flushed out, your skin will begin to brighten and glow.
Your skin will not magically clear up by drinking water for one week. Give it time, and try to cut out/back on sodas, sugary juices, and alcohol. Those drinks will replace the toxins you are trying to flush out.
How much water should you drink? I’ve seen two popular suggestions.
- 8×8 ounces. So 64 ounces of water a day.
- Ounces by weight. Take your weight and divide it by 2. Whatever number comes up is how many ounces you should drink. For example, you weight 150 pounds so drink 75 ounces of water.

Wash Your Face
Wash your face at least once a day. I wash mine twice, once in the morning and again at night. However, this may dry out some people’s skins.
Washing your face removes the buildup of dirt, oil, and grime. Leaving your skin feeling fresh and clean.
You can use your hands, washcloth, or a facial cleansing brush like THIS. I use a facial cleansing brush because it gives your skin a deep clean that you can’t get with your hands or washcloth.
Exfoliating your skin removes dead skin cells, which improves better texture and tone. You should aim to exfoliate your skin 2-3x a week. I exfoliate Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You should also exfoliate your body.

Have you ever noticed when you put toner on after you’ve washed your face, there is makeup on the cotton ball? That’s because your cleanser didn’t remove all your makeup. If it didn’t remove your makeup, it for sure didn’t remove the dirt and grime underneath. What do you do? Double cleanse!
Double cleansing means you wash your face twice. First, use an oil-based cleanser. The oil helps remove your makeup. Second, use your traditional cleanser to finish cleaning up. You can make your own, oil-based cleanser or buy them at the store. Burt Bees and Honest Beauty Company have great ones.

Moisturizing your face and using oils helps hydrate your skin. Giving it a healthy glow and reducing redness. Good oils help reduces sunspots, wrinkles, and acne scars.
Wash Your Sheets
Your sheets collect dirt, oil, dead skin cells, and germs. All those things transfer to your face and body during the night. It is extremely important to wash your sheets or change your pillowcase once a week. Also, be aware of the ingredients in your laundry detergent. I have sensitive skin that breaks out due to harsh chemicals and fragrance. There are popular detergents that contain these harsh ingredients. Switch it up and see if you notice a change.
Ask a Professional
This is not a must. I understand dermatologists are expensive. If you feel like you have tried everything you can to get healthy skin and you are still struggling, seek advice, and professional counsel.
These 8 habits will definitely help you get healthier beautiful skin. Remember to be patient and give yourself grace. Developing new habits take time.
