Cleaning Schedule that is Only 30 Minutes a Day

Keeping a clean house can be a daunting task, especially if you have little ones or work long hours. You put it off until Saturday and then before you know it, there are piles of clothes, clumps of dog fur, toys, and dirt everywhere. It’s overwhelming and you don’t know where to start. I was so sick of cleaning all day Saturday, that I decided to create a weekly cleaning schedule. This schedule allows you to clean your house in 30 minutes a day.

Daily Tasks

There are a few cleaning tasks that I do every day or other day on top of the 30 minutes. I would say they add about 10-15 minutes per day. These tasks include:

  • Making the beds
  • Doing dishes – My least favorite cleaning task! Honestly, it never takes that long I just think it will.
  • Spraying down kitchen counters
  • Running the Roomba in the main areas of the house. (I have 3 large dogs that shed so this is a must).
  • Taking out the trash and recycling.

Monday – Bedrooms

On Monday, I focus on all the bedrooms. This includes:

  • Wash the sheets and comforters on all beds.
  • Pick up trash, toys, shoes, and clothes that are laying out.
  • Dust the ceiling fan, shutters/blinds, and all wooden furniture.
  • Windex the knick-knacks, mirrors, and windows.
  • Vacuum

Tuesday – Living Room

On Tuesdays, I clean the living room. We have a formal dining and living room that I clean on Tuesdays as well. They don’t take long because there is minimal furniture. The tasks include:

  • Pick up trash, toys, game controllers, etc. Putting everything in the proper place.
  • Dust all furniture, knick-knacks, shutters/blinds.
  • Windex the windows and TV.
  • Vacuum and mop the floors.
  • Vacuum the couch and chair cushions (also vacuum under the cushions)

Wednesday – Foyer, game room, office

On Wednesdays, I clean the foyer and office. If you have a game room or loft, this would be the day to clean. The tasks include:

  • Pick up what doesn’t belong
  • Dust furniture, knick-knacks, and blinds/shutters.
  • Windex windows and glass in the room.
  • Vacuum/mop the floors and rugs.
  • If cleaning an office, organize the papers and mail.

Thursday – Kitchen

On Thursdays, I deep clean the kitchen on top of the daily kitchen cleaning. This includes:

  • Clean stovetop.
  • Wipe out the microwave.
  • throw out expired food in the fridge and pantry.
  • Wipe down cabinets.
  • Clean the backsplash.
  • Dust blinds/shutters, dining table, and any decor.
  • Vacuum and mop floors.
  • Clean and sanitize the sink.
  • Wipe down all working surfaces

Friday – Bathrooms

On Fridays, I clean the bathrooms. The tasks include

  • Clean the toilets.
  • Scrub tubs and showers.
  • Dust decor.
  • Refill soap, if needed.
  • Empty trash cans.
  • Wash all towels.
  • Windex the mirrors and windows.
  • Pick up what doesn’t belong.
  • Vacuum and mop.
  • Organize drawers and under the sink cabinets.
  • Wipe down counters and sinks.

Saturday and Sunday

Other than the daily tasks and laundry, I don’t clean on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes, I use these days to clean out closets, pantry, garage, or do yard work. It’s important for me to enjoy my weekends and not have to be annoyed by a messy house.

Deep Clean First

You are probably thinking, “How in the world does this only take 30 minutes a day? My house is a disaster.” The Saturday and Sunday before I started my schedule, I cleaned out the house. I threw out clutter, washed pillows and blankets,  put clothes away, cleaned out closets and the pantry. This helped save time the following week because I didn’t have to spend a ton of time picking up.

I understand that it is difficult to keep your house picked up with kids. Do your best to have them help you pick up their toys at the end of the day. This teaches them responsibility and it helps you out.

The first week may take you longer than 30 minutes per day, but consistency is key. After a few weeks, you will notice that the house stays cleaner for longer and you aren’t cleaning for the whole 30 minutes. If you have kids and teenagers, give them some tasks to do too.
