What to do When You are Bored at Home

Do you find yourself sitting around the house, opening your favorite social media app, closing it and then reopening it two seconds later? I do that all the time. This is a clear sign of boredom! I think now more than ever, people are bored at home. Here is a list of 12 things to do when you are bored at home. These things will get you off the couch and your phone.

Play Games

Playing board games, card games, or dominos is a fun way to make time go by quickly. It’s a great way for the family to come together, unplug from technology, and make memories. Some of my favorite childhood memories are family game nights. Our personal favorites are Monopoly, UNO, and Mexican Train.

Live alone? Have a Zoom game night! A fun game to play on Zoom is OUR MOMENTS. It comes with 100 thought-provoking conversation starters. They have families, relationships, kids, generations, and girls night out editions.

Make Funny Videos

Making videos can get your creative juices flowing and you will be sure to make memories. You can make all kinds of videos on TIKTOK or you can have a video challenge with friends. Start a group chat, and challenge everyone to make a video, then vote on who made the best one.

Get Musical

Play some karaoke with your family or friends. Have a dance-off or play Just Dance. Pick up your old instrument and start playing again. I’ve retaught myself piano the last few months and am loving every second of it!

Have a Cookoff

Have a cookoff challenge with your family or roomies. Base the rules off any cooking competition show. Pick your judges, competitors, and ingredients. If you have kids that can’t cook, let them be the judges or pair them with each parent.

Go Outside

Get your booty outside. Physically moving your body is so important to your mental and physical health. Go for a walk to clear your mind. Take your dog to a park and throw the ball. Go for a bike ride, a run, throw a football around. Color the sidewalk with chalk, jump on the trampoline or do some yard work.


Cook Through a Cookbook

Find a cookbook you love and cook your way through it. This will expand your cooking knowledge and you will eat well.  I did this with Bread Baking for Beginners and discovered a passion for baking bread. I plan on baking through Baking with Mary Berry next. Even if the recipe doesn’t turn out well, it’s still fun.

I will admit I’m not a big reader. However, we have more time than ever to pick up a book and start reading. Reading a fiction or educational book is 100x better for you than reading clickbait on Facebook.

Come of my favorite books include, Girl, Wash Your Face, and The Confident Woman.

Movie Night

Have a movie night, but make it fancy. Give your kids some monopoly money, set up a ticket booth and concession stand. This is a fun way to make movie nights extra special for your kiddos. Make sure you charge extra for popcorn!

Play Video Games

My husband and I love to play video games together! We have an N64 and play all our childhood games. Luckily, Nintendo Switch has similar games like Mario Cart and Super Smash Bros.

If you have an Xbox or Playstation4 you can play online with friends and family. My husband does this with his brothers.

Binge Watch a New Show

Find a TV series to Binge Watch. Pick a show to watch with your family or friends and discuss the episodes together. We have a large list of shows we love to watch. If you need help finding something, check out THIS POST. It’s a list of binge-worthy shows on multiple streaming services.
